F20 Daily Checklist

  • Cool microscope cold finger
  • Insert holder to first stop
    • Do not insert holder
  • Open colum valves
    • check for beam

  • Start Low Dose and click through systematically to "exposure" mode
    • Load Lose Dose file you will be using

Operation Parameters for alignments

  • 3850-3950 extraction voltage
  • Gun Lens 3 (make sure it is gun lens 3 by toggling between 2 and 3.)
  • 50 micron condenser aperture (check white board, for now it's position #2)

Gun tilt (check)

  • Magnification 10kx
  • Check exposure time without the small screen
    • Around 2 sec is appropriate
    • 2 sec exposure means 1 nanoAmp of current
      • if the exposure time is not close to 2 seconds double check for correct operation parameters
      • If the operation parameters are correct adjust Gun Tilt
  • Location: tune/alignments/gun
  • Adjust the gun tilt alignment to locate the brightest spot
  • After adjusting Gun tilt:
    • If exposure time is over 2 sec increase the extraction voltage and readjust gun tilt
    • If exposure time is less than 1.4 sec lower the extraction voltage and readjust gun tilt

Condensor Stigmation

  • Spot size 2
  • Magnification 250kx
  • Condense beam to 30mm size
  • Press stigmator button
    • select condensor
  • Use multifunction knobs to make beam round

Check image of FEG Tip

  • Condense beam to point
    • Beam may not be round at crossover, this is the image of the FEG tip
    • 5mm circle = 10nm
    • You want the majority of your beam to fit within the 5mm circle
